Arrested Development Is Back Thanks to Netflix Perhaps this is to atone for the gaffes of the past year. The 2003 cult comedy classic, Arrested Development is back after its short-lived run on TV. Netflix announced that they would be exclusively picking up a new season to be aired in 2013. Despite its current popularity, Arrested Development only lasted three seasons during its initial run from 2003-2006. Its legacy as one of the funniest shows on television still lives on five years after its premature cancellation. During its tenure, the show won five Emmys, one Golden Globe and was declared one of the "100 Best TV Shows of All-Time" by Time Magazine. ‘Arrested Development’ Movie: Jeffrey Tambor Says Hurry Up

AUSTIN, Texas — George Bluth may not be the most patient man in the world — at least when it comes to the new “Arrested Development” movie.

Speaking at the SXSW Film and Interactive festivals in Austin, Texas, the 67-year-old Jeffrey Tambor said producers “better hurry up or I’ll be in a walker.” The long expected feature film based on the television series, which only ran for three seasons, has also encountered long delays. Tambor starred in the series as the family’s patriarch, George Bluth.

Producers of the film confirmed early last fall that the fan favorite would return to the screen after a series of contractual and rights issues that delayed production (and a false rumor that star Michael Cera was a lone cast holdout).

As previously announced, 10 new episodes will be released on Netflix before the film’s release as a prequel, Tambor said. Co-star Will Arnett, who played Tambor’s son G.O.B. Bluth, told E! last week that writers are currently writing those episodes. “We are deep into it,” said Arnett.

The series, which struggled in ratings through its three seasons, starred Jason Bateman, Michael Cera and Portia de Rossi, and was produced and narrated by Ron Howard.

Tambor led a lecture on acting and directing at SXSW.

No date has been set for release, though filming is scheduled to begin this year according to reports.
